International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
The mission of gender equality includes increasing women and girl’s access to education, food security, economic empowerment, and informed decision making about their own health. There are activities and events held around the world on this day every year with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people.
“I am convinced that the women of the world, united without any regard for national or racial dimensions, can become a most powerful force for international peace and brotherhood” – Coretta Scott King

International Women’s Day Mission: Women’s Health
Within The International Women’s Day overarching goal to celebrate the achievements of women globally are six areas of focus. Mission #5 is in alignment with the Midwifery Model of Care and midwives throughout the world.
“Assist women to be in a position of power making informed decisions about their health.”
NARM stands in solidarity with women throughout the world who want autonomy in their health care decisions. Access to basic health care and shared decision making are still goals and not realities for many women throughout the world. IWD Women’s Health Mission provides a platform for leaders and educators to address these inequities.
