Modernizing the CPM Certification Exam
NARM invites CPMs, candidates, and the broader midwifery community to a free webinar on the ongoing modernization of the CPM Certification Exam.
Date: October 28th, 2026
Time: 4:00 PM Eastern
NARM is committed to maintaining a CPM Certification Exam that reflects current entry-level midwifery practice, meets nationally recognized standards for testing quality, and serves candidates fairly. As part of that commitment, NARM is implementing a multi-year modernization of the exam, and we want to walk the community through what’s changing and why.
Join us on October 28th to learn about:
- An updated exam content outline based on the 2024 Job Task Analysis, a nationwide study of what entry-level CPMs need to know and be able to do in practice.
- An updated reference list, aligned with the revised content outline and reflecting resources subject matter experts have identified as relevant to contemporary entry-level practice.
- Changes to the structure of the exam that support ongoing renewal of the question bank.
- How you can get involved in test development, from writing and reviewing exam questions to serving on the Test Development Committee.
Call for Volunteers: Help Shape the CPM Exam
NARM’s Test Development department is looking for CPMs to help build and refine the certification exam, and there’s a role for every schedule and interest.
Big-picture roles: Join the Test Development Committee (meets 6–12 times a year) to set priorities and oversee exam development, or the Differential Item Functioning Review Panel (meets 2–3 times a year) to evaluate whether differences in question performance across groups reflect real clinical distinctions or flawed questions.
Project-based roles: Write or review exam questions, check for bias and fairness, recommend reference updates, review the content outline, take part in the Job Task Analysis, or help set the passing standard. Commitments range from a few hours per cycle to occasional full-day workshops.
Training is provided for all roles. Applicants must complete a Conflict of Interest disclosure and review. Students and NARM prep course providers are not eligible.
