NARM does not directly supervise the preceptor/student relationship.
Effective June 1, 2021, with initial preceptor registration or preceptor renewal, NARM requires that all NARM Registered Preceptors develop a written work agreement that clearly defines expectations for the Student and Preceptor. By developing a written work agreement signed by Student and Preceptor, many issues regarding expectations and responsibilities can be prevented. A clearly written agreement is an indispensable resource to both the student and the preceptor if a dispute occurs.
NARM has created a Preceptor/Student Agreement Template as a starting point. You can view the template here. The agreement can also be adapted to fit your practice by downloading and editing this Word document.
Complaints received regarding the PEP Preceptor/Student relationship will be addressed by the Accountability Program Policy and Procedure. Complaints involving a preceptor/student relationship within a MEAC accredited program must be filed with the MEAC accredited institution.
The NARM Accountability Program (here) will address complaints that allege fraud or dishonesty with regards to the NARM application, exam or (re)certification process; misrepresentations of CPM certification status; conditions that impair professional performance; sanctions imposed by a regulatory agency or board relating to public health or safety of midwifery practice; conduct not consistent with professional midwifery standards including that which represent a threat to the health or safety of a client, their fetus or neonate; unethical conduct and unprofessional conduct.
NARM Accountability Program will not address complaints related solely to alleged violations of the Preceptor/Student work agreement.
