Cultural Awareness

NARM has updated the Cultural Awareness requirement for CPMs and requires all CPMs to complete a workshop, module, or course on Cultural Awareness every three years as part of the application for Recertification. The course may be counted in category one (accredited) or category two (unaccredited) towards the required 25 credit hours for recertification.

Cultural Awareness is a broad topic, but an acceptable course must include in its title a description pertaining to cultural awareness, diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, or addressing health disparities with Black, Indigenous, People of Color, LGBTQ+ Families, or other marginalized communities.

Courses may be offered on cultural awareness within a midwifery education program accredited by MEAC, a specific state approved midwifery or medical/health education program, or as a workshop accredited for CEUs for midwives or health care providers.

Visit our CEU Information page for a list of courses on Cultural Awareness.
